Birthday Trip to Udo Island

We wanted to do something special this week for my birthday (and our anniversary but that was on Thursday and I decided we could not combine the two celebrations) so my birthday got the big trip because it was on Sunday which is closest to Saturday.

So yesterday we headed to Udo Island for my special trip.  It was an hour and a half bus ride to the port and then just a 15 minute ferry to the island.  We had a great day there.

You can barely make out the welcome to Udo sign in the back
For the first part of the trip, we rented a scooter to tour around the island.  We got it for two hours which is enough time to ride all the way around the island and stop and look at things and take pictures.

They had a lot of these awesome seashell photo opps

This is mostly to show you how cool I look in a helmet three sizes too large

After our time was up, we returned the scooter and walked to the beach.  This was one of the beaches on our list of must visit beaches and is famous for the coral sand.  It is often nicknamed "popcorn beach" because the sand looks like popcorn.  It did.  Also, it did not feel very good to walk on barefoot. We brought our own tube and had fun floating around and playing in the water for a couple hours.

After 5 or 6 hours on the island, we decided to call it a day.  We were about to fall asleep on the beach and were getting quite burned.  We have come to realize, sunscreen is rarely effective in a million percent humidity.  Apparently, the skin never being completely dry lessens the lotions ability to actually stick to the skin and protect you.

One last picture with Sunrise Peak in the background.
Then today (Sunday) we did my opening presents and birthday cake.  These ones are wrapped in notebook paper and duct tape.  But look at those nicely tied bows.

And my lovely Baskin Robbins ice cream cake.  Cliff picked a really cute one with lots of chocolate in it. It was delicious.

All in all, I had a great birthday.  Cliff was awesome and made sure it was a special day even though we couldn't celebrate with other family or friends.
